Who I Am Matters
Where I Come From
After coming to USC, I've lived on the east coast, west coast, and in the Midwest. I wasn't expecting all three regions to have significantly different lifestyles, but because of this, I feel like I'm a very adaptable person. My favorite place to live is still the east coast though! Both of my parents immigrated to the United States, so it was fun growing up and experiencing both cultures.
Where I'm Going
In the future, I want to work in the venture capital industry on the investing side so I can collaborate directly with entrepreneurs in helping their start-ups succeed. I think the concept of an idea starting from scratch and then potentially growing into a multi-million company is a really interesting process that I want to contribute to. I also definitely want to travel to as many countries as possible when I'm young!
How I'll Get There
For my career, I think the best way to achieve my goals is to learn as much as I can in finance after college so I can understand how different companies operate. I should also continually talk to professionals in the industry to learn about their experiences, perspectives, and tips on succeeding.
How I'm Like My Parents
My parents are extremely hard-working and ambitious people and watching them sacrifice so much of their time so I could have a great future strongly motivated me to follow their work ethic. We also all love to discover new cultures through traveling, try new foods, and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
How I'm Unlike My Parents
Both of my parents love to cook, but it definitely feels like a hassle to me. I would also say that my parents are more patient than me, since I like to see results right away.
My Expectations
When I was younger, I definitely operated under other people's expectations of me, especially my parents and friends. As I've grown more independent because of college, I feel like I've developed my own expectations, although some of those are heavily influenced by my parents. It's more important for me to acting based on my own desires, rather than what I think other people want from me.
Role Model
Someone I look up to is Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, because he was one of the first CEOs to place environmental health over profits, and Patagonia is still one of the most environmentally friendly companies today.
Wild Animal
I feel a special connection to dolphins because they always seem so happy and agreeable and are smart enough to understand interactions with humans!
Childhood Encounter with a Plant
Growing up, the back of my backyard was a forest. One year, after the first major snowfall, a family of at least 10 deer spent an hour in my backyard eating leaves off of the shrubs. It looked like a Christmas commercial!

Hi Lisa, I totally agree with your comment on cooking. As much as I enjoy eating and trying new food, I have yet to find joy in cooking and see it more of a hassle (which in turn, has lead to an overconsumption of frozen food)
ReplyDeleteHey Lisa - your childhood encounter with the family of deer must have been fantastic - did you manage to take any pictures? Also, I've never thought of dolphins as agreeable animals, but I do see your perspective - they do seem approachable.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, great post! It is so awesome that you have lived on the east coast, west coast, and midwest! I have never lived anywhere but California, but I would love to live in NYC one day. What do you think makes the east coast better than the west coast?
